Chronic neck tension from tech neck, shoulder tightness, and tension headaches that radiate from the base of the skull are more common and more treatable than most people know. Trap Tox relaxes the large trapezius muscle that runs from the base of the skull across the shoulders, relieving chronic tension and pain while creating a visually slimmer, more elongated neck and shoulder line, all without surgery or downtime.
At Aesthetics Hawaii in Honolulu, every Trap Tox treatment is physician-directed and supervised by Medical Director Dr. David Yew, MD, a board-certified, Columbia-trained physician with 17 years of experience and Hawaii’s highest patient satisfaction rate. The trapezius is a large muscle that runs from the base of your skull, down through your neck, and across your shoulders. When it becomes chronically overactive from stress, poor posture, tech neck, or long hours at a desk, the result is persistent neck and shoulder pain, tension headaches, and in many cases a visually thick or heavy upper body.
Trap Tox targets all of this with a single treatment. When the trapezius relaxes, two things happen. The pain and tension ease. The neck looks longer, the shoulders drop, and the overall silhouette becomes more refined. Same injection, two benefits.
Think of it like a rubber band that has been stretched too tight for too long. Botox relaxes that tension by blocking the signal between the nerve and the muscle, preventing it from contracting at full force. The muscle does not shut down. It just stops overworking. That is what allows the pain to ease and the neckline to change.
Clinical research backs this up. Studies have shown significant reductions in pain, improved muscle relaxation, and better range of motion following trapezius injections. Over time with repeated treatments, the muscle gradually reduces in size and less Botox is typically needed to maintain results.
Barbie Neck and Swan Neck are social media terms for the long, elegant neckline that becomes visible when the trapezius relaxes and the shoulders drop into a softer, lower position. Both describe the same outcome: a more refined, elongated upper body silhouette that Trap Tox delivers as a natural byproduct of muscle relaxation. Many patients come in for pain relief and leave equally thrilled by the aesthetic change.
If you suffer from chronic neck tension, shoulder tightness, or tension headaches, or are looking to refine your neckline without surgery, contact us for a consultation to see if Trap Tox is right for you. Trap Tox is a quick in-office procedure that takes 15 to 30 minutes. There is no downtime and most patients head straight back to work or their normal routine.
Effects begin within 7 to 14 days. Full therapeutic and aesthetic results are typically visible at 2 to 4 weeks as the trapezius muscle fully relaxes.
Results typically last 3 to 6 months. With regular treatments, many patients find the muscle gradually becomes less overactive over time and the amount of Botox needed for maintenance may decrease.
No anesthetic is needed. A series of small injections are administered along the upper trapezius. Discomfort is minimal and most patients find it very tolerable.
Every patient is different. Most need between 50 and 100 units per side, but the right amount depends on your muscle size and your goals. Dr. Yew will figure out exactly what you need during your consultation.
No. The doses used for Trap Tox are targeted specifically at reducing chronic overactivity in the upper trapezius. Normal shoulder strength and function are preserved. Most patients do not notice any reduction in strength or range of motion.
